ROSS Begins Building in Randolph County
Ross Dress for Less Begins Construction on $300M Facility: In December 2024, Ross Dress for Less commenced construction on a 2.27 million square-foot distribution facility in Randolph County after receiving a $300 million building permit. The project is expected to create 852 jobs and represents a total investment of $450 million through the end of 2026.

County job market remains strong
The Randolph County unemployment rate increased slightly in the most recent report compiled by state job force officials but remained at a level considered within the range of a healthy local job market.
The November rate was 3.6%, up from 3.3% in October but on par with the 3.6% level in November of last year, the N.C. Department of Commerce reported.
In November, Randolph County had a labor force of 64,705 people, with 2,322 listed as out of work.
Statewide, unemployment rates increased in 85 counties from October to November, decreased in 12 and remained unchanged in three, the N.C. Department of Commerce reported. Among the state’s 15 metropolitan areas, 14 recorded rate increases while one saw a decrease.

Randolph EMC Awards $14,000 to Local Schools: In December 2024, Randolph Electric Membership Corporation awarded $14,000 in "Bright Ideas" grants to local schools, supporting innovative educational projects and strengthening community ties.
Randolph County's Economic Distress Ranking Changes: Despite significant investments like Toyota's, Randolph County experienced a shift in its economic distress ranking. County Manager Zeb Holden reported a 30% increase in the tax base in 2023, rising from $12.8 billion to $16.6 billion.
Richard Petty donation will more than double Victory Junction's footprint
NASCAR legend Richard Petty and his late wife donated the land for what would becomeVictory Junction, a camp that allows children with complex medical conditions to just be kids, in 2004.
New Coffee Ventures Open in Liberty: Two new coffee-themed businesses opened in Liberty, NC, in December 2024, following extensive renovations. These ventures contribute to the revitalization of the area and offer new local gathering spots.
Toyota Nears Key Milestone: Toyota is conducting pre-production trials at its Randolph County factory in the completed building that’s scheduled to start churning out batteries for its hybrid-electric vehicles by the early spring.
Randolph County School System Updates: In January 2025, Superintendent Gainey addressed several topics, including calendar changes for the 2024-2025 school year and the introduction of Middle School Signature Programs.
This initiative supports entrepreneurs, especially in rural areas, by offering resources to help new businesses succeed. Since 2020, nearly 200,000 new businesses launched annually, with veterans owning over 21,000. The program focuses on reducing the rural-urban divide and connecting entrepreneurs to free or low-cost professional services. Studies show a 5% increase in self-sufficient businesses could generate $1.5-$2 billion annually and create over 24,000 jobs. RCEDC Welcomes New Leader to Team
New RCEDC Official Ready to Support Industry Growth: In January 2025, the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation welcomed a new official aimed at bolstering local industry growth.
The ubiquitous toy building bricks will be sold in a 4,114-square-foot brick-and-mortar location in Greensboro’s Friendly Center, a building permit shows.
Located in Suite 101 of 3334 W Friendly Ave., the LEGO store will be housed among retailers such as Kendra Scott, Brooks Brothers and Simply Southern.
